NGY Lesson Plan "It's a Small World" + 5 Year Anniversary

5 YEARS!!! This month marks the 5th anniversary of the Next Generation Yoga Lesson Plan Club. That's right, Jodi Komitor and I have been co-creating and releasing monthly lesson plans for 5 years now -- holy moly!

It feels very fitting to me that this month's theme is "It's a Small World." While we recognize that not every single one of the NGY Lesson Plans are applicable or relatable to every population or culture, it is our deep intention to create curriculum that has no borders, can be taught to a diverse group of children, in a variety of settings, and is enjoyable and accessible for all. So, while we're celebrating our 5 year milestone, we're also celebrating traditions and cultures around the world with this month's plan. "It's a Small World" so beautifully highlights that we all live under the same sun and moon, and makes learning about new traditions and cultures fun and exciting.

Holi, Day of the Dead, Machu Picchu, Lunar New Year and Mongolian Camel Festival are some of the events and places featured in "It's a Small World." Because visuals are powerful and often have a greater ability to bring the experience to life more than words and movement, you might choose to share these brief videos to enhance the children's knowledge and experience.

The festival of colors to welcome the Spring. It is celebrated in India, Nepal, Pakistan and other countries around the world. People toss or blow colorful powder at each other in a joyful way.

Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead

A celebration of life and death. While the holiday originated in Mexico, it is celebrated all over Latin America with colorful calaveras (skulls) and calacas (skeletons).

Machu Pichu

A special, once “lost city,” built by the Inca people in Peru. People from all over the world visit Machu Picchu every year.

Lunar New Year

A celebration with parades of beautiful and colorful dragons, fireworks and special traditions that takes place in many countries throughout the world.

Mongolian Camel Festival

People come to Mongolia from all over the world admire and celebrate these extraordinary animals.

If you don’t already have the NGY “It's a Small World" Lesson Plan, you can purchase a copy for 2-7 yr. olds here and/or 8-13 yr. olds here.

Happy Teaching!
