Teaching yoga to children with special needs is my calling and how my journey in this field began — while working as an Occupational Therapist.
Inspired by how much joy and well-being my personal yoga practice was creating in my life, I started teaching yoga and mindfulness to children on the Autism Spectrum. I was amazed at how receptive they were and how beneficial yoga was. Yoga soon became an integral part of my OT sessions and served as a main intervention strategy during my 12-year career as a school-based OT in Massachusetts and Seattle. I have extensive experience working with children with a variety of diagnoses, including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorder, Cerebral Palsy and Down syndrome.
We have found that children of all abilities benefit immensely from Seattle Kids Yoga programs. Our style of Kids Yoga addresses the physical, social-emotional and cognitive strengths and challenges of the whole child.
